Do you recommend accepting a physics seminar invitation at the start of a tenure-track position? I am joining the Department of Physics, Engineering, and Astronomy at Beloit College as an Assistant Professor in the of Fall 2023 (In a few weeks). I was invited to give a physics seminar talk this fall. Should I accept it? What are your thoughts?
Benefits:
More publicity equals good
I get to talk to faculty from other departments
I get to travel
Downsides:
The first semester of an academic position can be overwhelming and adding an additional talk could increase the stress (or relieve it).
